Postcode locators have more than a few quirks, which is why renting one from MWM Systems Limited makes sense on many levels. The data itself costs four figures per annum, and the technology isn't quite as simple as you might think.
When the grid that postcodes were based on was set up, it was British mainland only. That rather left Northern Ireland out in the code when they were issued their BT22 postcode range. Technically that puts the geocode data for Northern Island into the negative range, which does rather complicate the maths.
The rest of it in theory would be simple spatial geometry, ignoring of course the Channel Islands which are also off the grid... and assuming you can always travel in a straight line, it is reasonably simple.
Barrier avoidance is key though. The Severn valley is a perfect example of a natural barrier, and our postcode locator systems are capable of avoiding major landmark barriers like this and taking them into account when calculating approximate driving distance.
If you need a stock or dealer locator based on postcode, why not contact us to see what we can offer. We guarantee to be cheaper than you renting the data yourself, and of course you don't have to work out the technology for yourself.
